about

"I'm Addicted too" is an anthem for the anxious-avoidant attachment styles. With this song I wanted to forgive myself for the patterns I fall into while also giving a truthful, emotional story on what it's like to love someone with an addiction. After years of therapy I finally answered this question I had on why I end up falling for unavailable people - what is with all these emotionally stunted people I just so happen to fall for? Well, actually it's me. I'm the problem. I was not emotionally available due to some deeply unresolved past childhood trauma and insecurities, which directly correlated to the partners I chose. Typically, avoidant alcoholics were the people I chose. This song was written after a break up that for some reason hit harder than all the rest. I found myself in a dark place and felt empty from no accountability being taken from their end. So I thought it was time I took accountability through song and through the lyrics tell my love story for the guy who likes to sniff snow, drink too much whiskey and got me hooked on american spirits again. It turned into a love story to myself as I loudly exclaimed near the end of the song exactly what I'm addicted to starting with "people who can't love me". This song is a tribute to all of us who find ourselves in relationships like this.

lyrics

I see your gentle eyes
I’m overwhelmed with
how well you empathize
One melody to the next
We make up the rest

I asked how do you feel about commitment?
you held my hands
Looked deeply in my eyes
And said you want that too
Alright, alright, alright

Then you’re swiping left or right
I am thinking it’s alright
You said it means nothing
But it definitely meant something
It’s like I eat red flags for breakfast

We’re addicted
We’re addicted
We’re addicted
We’re addicted to not being alone
Alright, alright

3am laughter turns into
You crying in my arms
I hold you
You tell me I’m saying all the right words
Our thoughts intertwined
Like telepathic superminds

Something’s falling in the cracks
Just isn’t enough
Cuz the narcissistic habits can’t love you back
Hiding under self awareness
You say someday you’ll take care of it

Now we’re just a song
Now we’re just a song
Now we’re just a song

I wish you could see how mean
you can be
When the blow takes you farther than the wind
And you can’t catch up
Only so much compassion on the shelf
Without starving myself

You said I did nothing wrong
You said I did nothing wrong
Wrong wrong wrong wrong

I’m addicted to
I’m addicted to
I’m addicted to
I’m addicted
I’m addicted
I’m addicted

To people who can’t love me
A nice fat bowl to numb the pain
Late night drinking
Never eating
Shutting down my inner child
Cigarettes and whiskey
Just go too well with depression
Thinking I am worthless
Overeating
Never sleeping

I’m addicted too
I’m addicted too
I’m addicted too
I’m addicted
I’m addicted
I’m addicted

To validation in the form of you
